THE VICTORIAN MAGAZINE

We were privileged to obtain, several years ago, a limited supply of vintage and antique women's magazines dating back to 1866. All have been carefully stored together in acid free envelopes. They are now being made available while they last. They are a great research tool as well as wonderful and exciting to look at.

Please note the condition as stated. Antique and vintage magazines are from paper and as such, are very fragile. Due caution must be taken when looking at them in order to retain their condition and value. If the magazine or magazines purchased are from the 1800s, they will come together in an acid free clear envelope for storage.

If you have any questions regarding the condition of these magazines or their contents, please e:mail or call us. They are being sold in "As Is Condition". We do not allow for returns on these magazines in order to avoid buyers from purchasing, taking pictures and then returning them.

$29.95 Antique Godey's Lady's Book, July 1866 - Item # 237

This is an Antique Godey's Lady's Book dated July 1866. This is a very old magazine that was the most famous woman's fashion magazine in the 1800s. According to the top of the magazine "We are confident that no one can read Godey month after month without becoming more refined, more ... and more genial. For pure literary taste it ranks amount the first of all parlor magazines." It has lovely illustrations on pages 13 through 22, which includes the piano music to "I'm Dreaming of the Absent". There are other illustrations scattered through the magazine but most reside at the front. It appears that pages 2 through 11 are missing unfortunately. The back page reads page 96. We briefly scanned the rest of the pages and they all seem to be there. The front cover is missing a 1 1/2' square piece and there is tape on the binding. There is wearing to the edges which is very normal at this age. Considering that this magazine is paper and is over 143 years old, it is in pretty good shape. This magazine measures 10"x6 1/2". It will come with an acid free clear envelope for storage.

$24.95 Antique Harper's Bazar Magazine, May 10, 1873 - Item # 238

This is an Antique Harper's Bazar Magazine dated May 10, 1873. In the magazine cover header it states, "A Repository of Fashion, Pleasure, and Instruction. This magazine features a front cover done by Jennie Brownscombe called "A City Railroad Car". Its illustrations are beauty and fully detailed. There are illustrations of basket work, crochet, tatting and worsted edges. There are three large page illustrations of "Reception Costume, Carriage Costume, and Spring Visiting Suit" and "Scene at a London Music-Hall". As well as a lovely child's illustration called "Tableaux Vivants In The Nursery - The Sleeping Beauty". It is illustrated and has 14 pages. It has some wear on the page edges and has been folded. We can not tell if the binding staples are original. It is a large magazine measuring 15 3/4" x 12". It is in great condition for its age (135 years old). It will come with an acid free clear envelope for storage.

This May 11, 1889 issue of Good Housekeeping has 40 pages loaded with articles and stories including a whole section in the back of antique advertising. It is in great condition, with just one small chip on the bottom left front cover and a triangle shaped piece missing from the bottom right front cover. This April, 1900 Easter Number of the Ladies Home Journal has 48 pages loaded with beautiful illustrations and great antique advertising in it. The cover features "The American Girl as a Bride" and is signed by Howard Chandler Christy. It also has Rudyard Kipling's New Animal Stories.

It is good condition. The back cover is missing unfortunately and the front cover is loose. There are the normal signs of wear on the cover with a cuts in the edges of the cover. Someone has penciled names in the top portion of the cover. This is a large magazine measuring 16 1/4" x 11 1/4". It is 109 years old.

This April 1901 issue of the Ladies Home Journal has 47 pages loaded with beautiful illustrations, fashions, and great antique advertising in it. The front cover is beauty and a Bride and and her mother by Henry Hunt. The Colgate Company has a full page advertisement on the back cover.

It is great condition for its age. The back and front covers are coming loose but are still on. There is an old mail tag on the top front cover. This is a large magazine measuring 16 1/4" x 11 1/4". It is 108 years old.

This is a vintage April 1916 issue of the Home Needlework Magazine. It has 45 pages loaded with vintage patterns for Crochet as well as articles on Embroidery and Tatting. The articles are about dresses to bedding to tea tiles. There is vintage advertising in the back. The cover features a fabric hat with the directions inside. In addition, there is a full page Pears' Soap advertisement

It is good condition. There are stains on pages 11 to 13 from someone's hands. The cover is loose from the magazine. This magazine measures 9 3/4" x 7". It is 93 years old.

$19.95 Vintage Old and New Designs in Crochet Corset Covers and Nightgown Yokes, Book No.9 by Sophie T. LaCroix- Early 1900s - Item # 255

This is early 1900s, Book No.9 by Sophie T. LaCroix called Old and New Designs in Crochet Corset Covers and Nightgown Yokes. It contains 14 pages loaded with vintage crochet patterns, including filet crochet. There is some Woolworth and Woolco advertising in it. The booklet is good condition with the normal age wear around the edges of the pages. There are stains on some of the pages and the front cover is loose from the booklet. A former owner did pencil in notes in some of the pages. This booklet measures 10 1/2" x 7 1/2". There is no date on this booklet.

$14.95 Vintage Clark's Design for Crochet Yokes Book No. 5 by Frances A. Harris, Dated 1919 - Item #256

This is a 1919, Book No.5 by Frances A. Harris entitled Clark's O.N.T. Designs for Crochet Yokes. It contains 31 pages loaded with vintage crochet patterns, including filet crochet. There is some Clark's full page advertising in the back. The booklet is in fair condition considering the age. It seem that someone may have partially folded this booklet. The center page is loose. The front cover has a tear that someone put one small piece of tape on. There is a sticker on the front cover a some tape took off part of the ladies hair. There is some staining to the back cover and a very small triangle missing from the lower left corner of the back cover. This booklet measures 10 1/2" x 7 1/2". It is 90 years old.

This is a vintage June 1917 issue of Needlecraft Magazine. It has 27 pages loaded with beautiful filet crochet patterns, illustrations, fashions, and great vintage advertising in it. The first page has the famous full page colored advertisement by Cream of Wheat. The back cover is a full page colored advertisement for Old Dutch Cleaner.

It is great condition for its age with the normal wear to the pages and edges. There is one spot on the front cover under "June" where it appears that something was pulled off of it, probably an address label. It does appear to have been folded at one time. This is a large magazine measuring 15 1/4" x 10 3/4". It is 92 years old.

This is a vintage July 1917 issue of Needlecraft Magazine. It has 27 pages loaded with beautiful filet crochet patterns, illustrations, fashions, and great vintage advertising in it. The first page has a famous full page colored advertisement by Cream of Wheat.

It is great condition for its age with the normal wear to the pages and edges. There is some finger stains and one spot on the bottom right front cover where it appears that something was pulled off of it, probably an address label. The front page is about to come off but is still attached. This is a large magazine measuring 15 1/4" x 10 3/4". It is 92 years old.

This is a vintage February 1918 issue of Needlecraft Magazine. It has 27 pages loaded with beautiful tatting patterns, illustrations, fashions, and great vintage advertising in it. The first page has a famous full page colored advertisement by Cream of Wheat. The back cover contains a full page advertisement from Victor and Victrola Records and includes pictures of 23 famous and world renown sings and instrumentalists.

It is great condition for its age with the normal wear to the pages and edges. There is a tear on page 3 and a 1" corner missing from the back cover. It appears that this magazine was folded in half at some point in time. This is a large magazine measuring 15 1/4" x 10 3/4". It is 91 years old.

$14.95 Vintage Needlecraft Magazine - April 1918 - With Cream of Wheat Ad & Columbia Records Ad- Item # 260

This is a vintage February 1918 issue of Needlecraft Magazine. It has 25 pages loaded with beautiful crochet patterns, illustrations, fashions, and great vintage advertising in it. The first page has a famous full page colored advertisement by Cream of Wheat entitled "Where The Mail Goes, Cream of Wheat Goes". The back cover contains a full page colored advertisement from Columbia Records for the Columbia Grafonola.

It is fair condition for its age with the normal wear to the pages and edges. There are numerous tears where someone has folded the magazine in half and thus weakened the paper in those areas. Also there are not original staples put through the magazine. This is a large magazine measuring 15 1/4" x 10 3/4". It is 91 years old.

This is a vintage December 1918 issue of Needlecraft Magazine. It has 27 pages loaded with beautiful crochet patterns, including numerous filet crochet patters, illustrations, fashions, and great vintage advertising in it. The first page has a famous full page colored advertisement by Cream of Wheat entitled "Dat's Mah Boy" The back cover contains a full page colored advertisement from Old Dutch Cleanser.

It is fair condition for its age with the normal wear to the pages and edges. The magazine appears to have been folded in half at one point in time. At the fold, several pages have started small tears along the fold line. The front and back covers are detached from the magazine. This is a large magazine measuring 15 1/4" x 10 3/4". It is 91 years old.
