$224.95 RARE! Museum Quality 1860s Victorian Civil War Era Matinee Morning Wrapper - Item #514
RARE! 1860s Victorian Civil War Era Matinee Morning Wrapper. Gorgeous, Gorgeous, Gorgeous is the only words to really describe this piece. It is museum quality. This matinee or morning wrapper has extremely fine quality in workmanship. It features Civil War Era dropped shoulders, gathers sleeves, very intricate insertion lace and tiny extensive pleating. It has lovely carved mother of pearl buttons which are hide inside a placket. The top of the collar is open for a pin to close it. It is made out of a cream cotton. It would fit a size 8 to possibly 12. It has been in our private collection for numerous years and has been well looked after. Please click on the picture to see additional pictures of this beauty. Pictures just do not due this piece justice.
This Matinee is very similar to the Matinee featured on page 95 of Joanne Olian's book "Victorian and Edwardian Fashions from 'La Mode Illustree'". We use this book as one of our sources in identifying and dating our Victorian and Edwardian clothes. Our Matinee has the drop shoulders dating it to the 1860s, where as the one in the book does not have the drop shoulders and is dated at 1887. Our Matinee is also very similar in style to the #12 white bodice, she has listed in her book on page 5, dated 1862.
It has s very faint age stain on the top back by the collar. You would have to really look close to see it. It only has a few pin holes, possibly 2 in the back and a 1/4" tiny tear in the back and one tiny 1/4" tear in the lace on the bottom front. We did not repair them since they should be repaired professionally. For its age, it is in excellent condition. It has been gently soaked when we first obtained it. It was obtained from an estate sell several years back. It was found in a truck with other civil war era pieces, including the fiche we have listed this week. We hope whoever purchases this Matinee will lovingly care for it. It is rare that you would find a Matinee, let alone one in this great condition. You will not be disappointed.
$149.95 Rare 1860s Civil War Era Antique Victorian Bobbin Lace Fichu - Item #303
This is a gorgeous Bobbin Lace Fichu dating around the mid 1800s in excellent condition for its age. It measures 65" long, including lace. The width measured at the widest spot in the center with the lace is 26" wide. You can click on the picture to be linked to close ups of the fichu. The voile material is a fine light weight semi transparent cotton. It may even be considered batiste material. This was an estate find. It was found in an attic trunk surrounded by other items from the 1800s. Truly a wonderful and beautiful fichu.
We believe this to be bobbin lace trim. The lovely bobbin lace is approximately 3" wide. We saw only one small break in the bobbin lace. It has been gently laundered and is in pristine condition. We could not find any stains or holes upon inspection, except for the small break in the bobbin lace.
Please click on the picture to be taken to additional pictures of this fichu. This fichu is very similar to the Maria Antoinette fichu pictured on page 4 of Joanne Olian's book "Victorian and Edwardian Fashions from 'La Mode Illustree'". We use this book as one of our sources in identifying and dating our Victorian and Edwardian clothes.
A wonderful, beautiful and rare piece of history.
124.95 Lemaire Mother of Pearl Opera Glasses - Item #221
This is a great working pair of Lemaire Mother of Pearl Opera Glasses. They are stamped on the underside of the middle bar with the Lemaire logo "bee" on one side and the number #63 of the other side of the bridge. The frame appears to be aluminum and the remainder brass. When we purchased these opera glasses from an auction house, we were told they dated pre-civil war. We have not been able to verify the information. The optics work great and they expand and collapse as they were meant to. There is some rubbing to the brass from where fingers have been as shown in the picture. Please email or phone if you would like additional pictures or a picture of the stamps. Great looking pair for the opera or to have as a decoration on your vanity.
$34.95 Vintage White Beaded Evening or Bridal Clutch - Item #292
This is a gorgeous Vintage White Beaded Evening or Bridal Clutch. It is totally beaded on the outside. It has been beaded with white seed beads and luminous ivory colored glass bugle beads. Truly a work of art. We can't even imagine the amount of hours it took to make this clutch. It has an ivory satin lining with one open pocket. It snaps close. The only marking we see is the word "Victory" on the snap. The clutch is white and ivory. If you would like more pictures, please email or call us.
The clutch is in great condition for its age. All beading is intact. There are about 3 bugle beads that have a line through them which may mean they may be cracked. They are not loose and at still intact. This evening clutch would make a gorgeous bridal clutch or look great with a pair of white leather gloves on a vintage or antique dresser or dressing table.
